GUIDELINES FOR HOT TUBS OR SPAS

Hot Tub or spa equipment installed on the exterior of the house must compliment the home. Hot tubs or spas must be located on or within a patio or deck that integrates with the house and the size must be appropriate to the location. The hot tub or spa must be screened. Aesthetics, privacy and noise pollution must be considered. Screening materials may consist of lattice, trellis, tall landscape elements or other approved material that can buffer noise and block views. Noise, whether from the hot tub itself or from those using it, must not cause disturbance to neighboring homes.

This guide sheet is designed to assist you in preparing to submit an application to the Muirfield Design Control Committee for your project. The following are required components:

  1. Written approval from the Muirfield Design Control Committee must be obtained before installation begins.
  2. Submit two complete applications including pertinent drawings, brochures, and color.
  3. The application must include placement information. Hot tubs/Spas must be placed upon or within a deck, patio or other location that integrates it with the building structure.
  4. The hot tub must be screened with fencing or another acceptable barrier such as lattice, trellis, tall landscape elements or other materials to buffer noise and block views.
  5. If installed on a deck, the top of the hot tub can be no higher than the height of the deck railing.
  6. If landscape elements are used for screening, identify all existing landscaping that may be removed as well as tall elements that will be added.
  7. If fencing is used for screening, it must meet the fencing requirements and be maintained in good condition at all times.
  8. Hot tubs/Spas must compliment the home in color and be appropriate in dimension with the selected location.
  9. The hot tub cover must be an earth-toned color.
  10. A Hold Harmless Agreement must be signed and on file at the Association office before approval can be given. The Hold Harmless Agreement is a part of the application (page 2).
  11. Provide design review fee payment of $50.00.
