GUIDELINES FOR GARAGE DOOR REPLACEMENT

The MDCC will consider raised panel wood, fiberglass and certain heavy-gauge insulated steel doors as acceptable replacements. In specific areas of Muirfield and on specific architectural home styles, flush doors will be considered for approval. The garage door is generally a more discreet feature of the home. The color of the door should be the trim color of the house or stained a natural wood color. When considering replacing older garage doors, consider the architectural style of the home and the neighborhood as there are many styles available, however, not all styles of garage doors are complementary or appropriate for the home. Some doors may be appropriate with windows, however, the windows must be real, transparent glass.

The following guidelines are in accordance with the Muirfield Design Standards. This guide sheet is designed to assist you in preparing to submit an application to the Muirfield Design Control Committee for your project.

The following are required components:

1. Submit 2 complete applications including applicable photos, brochures and samples prior to starting the project.
2. Garage doors must be raised-panel wood, raised-panel fiberglass or certain insulated heavy-gauge steel materials unless otherwise approved by the committee.
3. Few neighborhoods and certain home styles will accommodate flat panel doors.
4. There are many styles available; consider the architectural style of your home when considering replacement as not all styles of garage doors will complement the architecture of your home.
5. Provide a brochure of selected door, identifying style, windows (if applicable), dimensions and color.
6. Provide gauge and r-value.
7. Most often, garage doors must be painted the trim color of the house. Wood doors may be stained a wood stain color with approval.
8. Provide photo of home showing existing garage door(s).
9. Provide design review fee of $10.00.

What to Include with this Application

To avoid delays and to prevent the application from being tabled, please ensure the application is filled out completely and include two copies of the application and two each of all relevant materials (samples, photos, drawings, site maps, brochures, etc.) plus the design review fee. One copy will be returned to the submitter. Include the following:

• Door Manufacturer information
• Series & Style information
• Description (Raised panel/windows/ style, gauge, R-value, etc.)
• Color sample
• Brochure
• Photo of home showing garage doors
• Design Review fee payment of $10.00
• Expected Date of Completion
